Here is the Spoon Gourd, Cucurbita pepo var ovifera. It is named so because it can be hollowed out an made into a spoon. The fruits typically are yellow with a green bottom and strips! The fruits can rage from 4 inches to 7 inches but are typically around 4 inches in size. Plants are good producers making as many as 2 dozen gourds per plant with vines reaching about 12 feet long. typically speaking they are not edible but are use for crafts and Halloween decorations. You can also let them dry out with the seeds inside and they make great little maracas for the kids! Open pollinated, sow directly in the garden 80 to 100 days.
