Here is the Red Garnet Amaranth, Amaranthus cruentus. It originates from Peru and was used by the ancient Aztecs for centuries. Amaranth in general goes back over 8000 years in it's use. It is mostly grown as an ornamental plant but it is edible and can be eaten cooked or raw like a salad green. There are many species and some are grown for the grain itself but the Red Garnet Amaranth is mostly grown for its other edible parts mainly as micro-greens. Plants can get to around 4 feet tall and produce a nice crop of seeds. Easy to grow and great for biginners and all gardeners alike! Open pollinated 55 to 110 days depends location.

GERMINATION INFO.
In colder regions, start seeds indoors in the early spring and transplant after the last frost. Red Garnet Amaranth does best in full sun. Plant 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, spacing 14" between plants. Germination takes 2 to 3 weeks at soil temperatures between 70-75 F. Bottom water or mist to prevent the sowing mix from splashing on the seedlings and maintain even moisture. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Grow time is about 110 to 150 days.
