Here is the Peruvian Wild Tomato Type 4, Lycopersicon peruvianum, Solanum peruvianum, new for 2023. This wild tomato from central Peru to northern Chile is a very rare tomato type to come across! It is Indeterminate, semi regular leaf, perennial and produces 1/4" to 1/2" sized, small uniformly green fruits and purple shoulders and 1 to 3 stripe on bottom, with some speckles or freckles. The tomatoes have a smooth pale skin and good producing variety. We found this variety to be resistant to most diseases. The fruits are edible but may contain some alkaloids when unripe. Plants can get very large up to a 16 foot bush and many branches. This species tends to handle colder climates and grows well in very dry conditions. This verity appears to be self-compatible and fruits early in season. Open pollinated, indeterminate, wild, regular leaf, mid to late season, green, currant, fresh, 75 to 120+ days.
